PROJECT OVERVIEW
The lower-ground service areas at the Royal College of Nursing experience regular trolley traffic, which was causing repeated impact damage to the existing doors.
KALR Group was appointed to develop a durable solution that would protect the most vulnerable areas of each door while allowing the existing doors and associated ironmongery to remain in service.
Our solution was to manufacture and install bespoke three-quarter-height stainless steel protection panels, recessed into the door corners to provide robust impact resistance and a clean, integrated finish.

CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS
CHALLENGE
Repeated trolley impact was damaging the timber doors in the busy lower-ground service areas.
SOLUTION
Bespoke three-quarter-height stainless steel panels were recessed into the door corners for durable impact resistance.
ADDITIONAL WORKS
Door furniture, springs and closing mechanisms were adjusted to accommodate the additional panel weight.
RESULT
8 doors upgraded with 16 custom panels, providing robust long-term protection while maintaining smooth operation.
THE OUTCOME
The completed installation provides a durable long-term solution to recurring trolley damage across the lower-ground service areas.
A total of 16 bespoke stainless steel panels were installed across 8 doors, significantly improving impact resistance while maintaining a clean and professional appearance.
Door furniture and spring mechanisms were adjusted so each door continued to operate correctly after the additional protection was fitted.
