PROJECT OVERVIEW
The doors within the Henrietta Foyer and adjoining areas were suffering repeated damage caused by service trolleys coming into contact with the lower sections and corners of the doors.
KALR Group was tasked with developing a solution that would provide long-term impact protection while remaining sympathetic to the appearance and character of the existing doors.
Our solution combined a full restoration of the existing timber doors with bespoke brass protection plates, carefully designed and manufactured specifically for the installation.

SCOPE OF WORKS
Removal of 12 existing doors

CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS
CHALLENGE
Doors were regularly exposed to knocks and impact from service trolleys, resulting in damage to timber finishes and vulnerable edges.
SOLUTION
Bespoke brass protection plates, rebated into the door corners to create a clean, integrated finish while providing long-term durability.
ADDITIONAL WORKS
All doors were stripped, made good, re-varnished and lacquered. Existing features and ironmongery were revitalised, cleaned and polished.
RESULT
A robust, visually integrated solution that protects the doors while retaining their original character.
THE OUTCOME
The completed works gave the existing doors a renewed, high-quality finish while introducing a robust solution to the recurring impact damage. The 24 bespoke brass panels installed across 12 doors now protect the most vulnerable areas from service trolley contact, while their recessed detailing allows them to appear as an intentional architectural feature rather than an aftermarket addition.
The result is a solution that combines protection, craftsmanship and longevity while retaining the character of the original doors.
